Galactic Melee main menu music

Here's a track from the Galactic Melee score (MMO space shooter game) I'm working on at the moment:
http://www.ethereality.info/ethereal...ee-Main_20.mp3

It's the main music and will be used throughout all the menu option screens. It's a mixture of electronic, orchestral strings, glitch, and industrial. I originally wanted something more understated, but then I remembered that some of the games I really liked actually had pretty intense menu music that really puts the player in the mood for some action. The glitch elements are my attempt to incorporate the idea the in space combat, damage and mechanical failure is a common occurrence.

Anyway, just wanted to get some feedback on it, as this is my first time scoring a game.

Re: Galactic Melee main menu music

Good ideas!

I suggest that the intro is building up for too long on something as straight as just a bongo groove; I think it gets “in-your face” enough after the glitch, but the part before that is too long and needs to be f***ed up and warped if it’s really going to be that long.

You could mix electronic drum sounds alternating with the acoustic bongo sounds, and make the bass snarl more.

As for the glitch stuff: As it is, it sounds more like a real malfunction, and not the musical interpretation of malfunction. This is because the glitch appears only once, and not in a rhytmically convincing way. I suggest you develop this idea, and add glitching themes elsewhere in just one/some instruments at a time (or just glitching a master reverb!) and incorporate it into the musical lines already there, and in recognisable rhythms.

Regards

Re: Galactic Melee main menu music

Thanks for the comments. I actually had two versions before this one, and the current one is where I've already taken a lot of suggestions into considereation. You can listen to the earlier two versions here:

I agree with you, but when actually working on the track, it felt like too much glitch just distracted from the piece. As you can hear in the earlier version (with glitch version), it was a lot more prominent.
